About a Renault built Ford rally car that looked like a mix between the RS200 and and a group B Renault 5. Now the interesting thing wasn't really all of that, it was the way in which the rear track had been widened. It had fender flares up front, but on the rear they had taken another set of the same quarter panels and essentially stuck those on at and angle going out from behind the doors, it was funky looking, but I liked it.

A bit like this, you mean?

Kind of, but imagine way boxier and it being a hatchback, and then they just kinda cut out the back end and put two halves of a back end about a foot apart then patched it back up. It was one of those rare times where it was super ghetto but looked awesome because racecar.

It sounds so familiar. Maybe it's a real car you don't remember seeing - the appearance part, at least. I just can't think what it is.

This style rear end:
Meet's this style front end:
But with a more... prelude/foxbody style headlight and grill arrangement.
Pretty sure it was just my mind deciding to come up with random crap, but it was cool none the less.

Hmm. Any of the more obscure ones on this list?

Actually the RS200 isn't the right Ford, it had the front end of one of these(Escort 1700T), but still definitely had the true hatch back and fenders of the Renault.

Maybe the Citroen?
Or this Peugeot I'd never seen before?

Not enough boxy fenders.

First thought was the Renault Clio Maxi
But that sounds a bit tame. Maybe your mind has rebranded the Metro 6R4?

It had a ford badge on the good, but a Renault engine in it. I remember being quite perplexed.

I don't trust dreams to get branding right, to be honest. :)
If it wasn't the Metro, how about the Peugeot 205 T16? After that, I'm pretty much out of ideas.
